英文法書　「English grammar in use」から一部引用　unit59　パート１

普段の自分の好みを述べるときは　prefer to と prefer-ing　どちらを使ってもOKです。

例）I don't like cities.
I prefer to live in the country. or I prefer living in the country.

※しかし下のように比較するとき（～より～が好き）preferのあとの文の構造には注意が必要です。

study
I prefer something to something else.
I prefer doing something to doing something else.
but I prefer to do something rather than (do) something else.

例）I prefer this coat to the coat you were wearing yesterday.
I prefer driving to travelling by train.
I prefer to drive rather than travel by train.

※prefer something とprefer doing の後ろには　to　がきますが、　prefer to do something の後ろにはrather thanがくるので注意が必要です。
